WOOSTER – After being a camper in the Wooster Christian School artwork camp for quite a few yrs, 14-year-old Evan Berger mentioned he is excited to be coming back this year as a helper.
“I like the possibility to learn new items and then enable other youngsters when I arrive back to train. That’s definitely been my most loved aspect,” Berger said. “And I also just adore the expertise that I see with my friends, and also what I have been equipped to learn throughout the decades.”
At the Wooster Christian School art camp, children age 8-13 create visual art, such as paintings, clay pieces and crafts, and performance art by music and theater performances, although also learning about the Christian faith.

What the camp is all about
In advance of bringing the plan to Wooster Christian Faculty, Melody Kirby, artwork teacher, started the program 10 years ago at a neighborhood nonprofit ministry in downtown Wooster referred to as Mosaic Relationship. When she started off doing work at the university 5 years ago, Kirby claimed the plan altered, but she was continue to in a position to link with the little ones via artwork.
Through the five-day summer season camp, which will operate Monday-Friday, Kirby hopes to train the young children about different styles of art, their own artistic talents and about God.

Learners discover about artwork and Christ
Each and every day the camp starts off with a devotional story time that has a connection to Scripture. Immediately after the tale is shared, young children break into groups to do the job on art projects and do team functions for the relaxation of the day.
Every year the camp has an overarching theme that influences the pursuits. Kirby explained this year’s topic is “repurpose” and she options to create musical instruments and pieces of art with matters such as outdated cans, pieces of furniture and toilet paper rolls.
To pay for materials, every single camper is asked for a $25 donation that Kirby said goes toward funding the camp.
Kirby said she shows the kids different kinds of art and tries to highlight artists and artistic people today who can be located in the Bible so the children can find out about the art as they build it.
At the finish of every camp, learners display off their artwork to family members and buddies at a closing ceremony and exhibit held on Friday night. After the exhibit the students have the possibility of having the artwork home or donating it to elevate dollars for the college or a area nonprofit.
“It exhibits youngsters what they can do with their art, how they can support many others with their art,” Kirby reported.
Why students love it
Though several learners who choose the method are from Wooster Christian School, the camp is open up to any pupil in the neighborhood.
