7 Things To Do In Gangtok

All those travel freaks out there who are looking for a place to do their work from home or need to go somewhere to blow off some steam, Gangtok must be considered! Your eyes and all other senses shall thank you. If you are wondering what all is there then worry not, there are several places and actvities.

Goecha La Trek

If you are okay with trekking then this one is a good trail and is said to be amongst one the most romantic treks in the Himalayas. You have the whole package! The high mountains, the atmosphere and the valleys. It is svery different from what you see everyday. You can walk in the forests full of Rhododendron trees, the Dzongri and Thansing meadows, the Samiti Lake, and the beauty of being able to see the Kanchejunga and Pandim ranges all along.

Go For River Rafting

Throughout Sikkim, flows the Teesta River so Gangtok is also one of the plcaes it crosses through. In fact it provides for some great spots for river rafting. It has the swirls and twirls due to the ever-changing terrains, which makes for a great experience even for new rafters. The time to raft here is between December to June.

Paragliding

If you have a strong heartthen patagliding is one experience everyone must ave atleast once in a lifetime. Fly over rivers, snow coevered mountains, meadows and forests. Gangtok is slowly becoming a hotspot for this breathtaking experience. But there is a catch.You have to be below 90 kg and be physically fit. Listen to the pilot and you can choose between an altitude of 1400 m, or 2000 m. Head to Baliman Dara and the right time to go here is between May and October.

Silk Route Cycling

A lovely activity indeed, enjoy the lovelyexpanse of nature on a cycle amid the Kanchenjunga and the Himalayan ranges. Take the Silk Route journey and you have many tour operators to help out. You can camp here or go sightseeing. It begins from Sillery Gaon where you can go via car from the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. To take a break, you can see Zuluk, Rishikhola, Nathang Valley, and more.

The Seven Sisters Waterfall

There are seven waterfalls here that flow side by side here and they are called the Seven Sisters Waterfall. Monsoon is the best time to see it as it all becomes alive! They rush down through the mountains with a blanket of forests and reflect the sky which makes for a spectacluar view. You can arrange a small picnic from the view point and enjoy with your loved ones. It is located at the National Highway, 32 km from Gangtok.

Nathu La Pass

An adventurous trip on your mind? Then chcoekout the famous Nathu La Pass which is located at a height of 14150 feet. It was the passage to the Silk Route when it was operational. The view here is stunning! The India-China border is just a few feets away and you can also see the soldiers of both the countries guarding the border. Do visit the Sherathang Market and Kupup on your trip. However, oxygen becomes less here so go if you are fit enough to.

You can also carry a small Oxygen cylinder with you. You must have your ID proof, 2 passport size pics and a Protected Area Permit, issued by the Sikkim Tourism Department to enter. It is located 52 kms from Gangtok and open from 8 AM to 9 AM, Wednesday to Sunday.

Tsomgo Lake

This lake is in East Sikkim also called ‘Changku Lake’. There are many myths and beliefs associated to it. It is situated on the Gangtok Nathu La Highway and is very close to the Chinese border.The view is stunning but the catch is that due to its closeness to the Indo-China International Border, if you are a non-Indian national, you may have to take special permissions.
