Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim will play for USA East Coast in Spain; Jim Boeheim will coach another squad on tour

Syracuse, N.Y. ― Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim will team up for USA East Coast Basketball on a 3-game tour of Spain this August.

USA East Coast annually sends a team of current college players to play a series of games against international teams in Europe.

Guy Rancourt, USA East Coast’s director and the head coach at Western Connecticut State, confirmed on Wednesday that Syracuse’s brother combination would be part of the program’s 2021 European tour.

This year, though, Rancourt is putting together three teams ― Red, White and Blue.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will be the head coach of the White team. Adrian Autry, SU’s associate head coach, will be Boeheim’s assistant on the team. Autry was USA East Coast’s head coach in 2019 when the team traveled to Greece.

Buddy Boeheim, a 6-6 guard who led Syracuse in scoring last season, will be a senior at Syracuse next year. Jimmy, Buddy’s older brother, is a 6-9 forward who played three years at Cornell. After sitting out last season, Jimmy Boeheim transferred to Syracuse where he will be a senior next year.

But Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will have to wait until the 2021-22 season before coaching his sons.

Rancourt said the Boeheim brothers would play together on the Red team coached by Hall of Famer Larry Brown. Brown was recently hired as an assistant at Memphis.

“I thought it would be great for them to learn under Coach Brown,’’ Rancourt said. “Jim liked the idea, too.’’

The three teams will all travel to Spain where they will play three games in early August. The games will be played in Valencia and Barcelona against teams from Spain and France.

The teams will gather for a brief training camp at Manhattan College on July 31-Aug. 1 before heading to Spain.

Rancourt said more details on the teams’ rosters would be announced soon.
