SBCC’s Atkinson Gallery Chat Examines Mesoamerican Artwork and Tradition | Arts & Entertainment

SBCC’s Atkinson Gallery, in conjunction with the SBCC Foundation, invitations local community customers interested in art and science (past and existing) to a dialogue with the imaginative team at the rear of its forthcoming venture and exhibition Cosmovisión Indígena: The Intersection of Indigenous Awareness and Up to date Art.

The group dialogue, scheduled by way of Zoom at 4 p.m. Feb. 24, will offer an option to master about and interact with the challenge as the investigation system starts.

Cosmovisión Indígena will trace the heritage, science, and up to date utilizes of Mesoamerican dyeing and weaving, whilst exploring the mythology, ritual and storytelling applied to preserve and move on this traditional expertise.

Featuring the two lead artist advisors Tanya Aguiñiga of Los Angeles, Porfirio Gutiérrez of Ventura, and Teotitlán del Valle, of Oaxaca, Mexico, the converse will also contain curators John Connelly, Atkinson Gallery director Frederick Janka, executive director, Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Basis, Ojai and Audrey Lopez general public artwork and engagement curator, Santa Barbara County Business of Arts and Lifestyle.

Conceived in local community, this partnership of Central Coast arts corporations joins a network of cultural, academic and scientific establishments throughout Southern California as part of Pacific Regular Time: Art x Science x L.A., scheduled to open in 2024.

Funded by the Getty Basis, Pacific Normal Time will aspect dozens of concurrent exhibits, performances, publications and other programming by 45 Southern California establishments, all checking out the intersection of artwork and science.

The Atkinson’s Cosmovisión Indígena will build an art lab and understanding garden in Santa Barbara, as properly as a community research area in Oxnard, serving customers of the Mixtec, Zapotec, and other indigenous communities from Oaxaca, Mexico, who have settled through Ventura County.
